Daddy in the Dark, by John Chamberlain, 1988.

Daddy in the Dark

As a result of being a Visual Arts major at Westchester Community College, I discovered the Dia:Beacon art galleries in Beacon, NY. John Chamberlain is one of the artists with works on long term view there. My favorite piece of his is Daddy in the Dark.  It’s hard to believe that this sculpture of twisted metal was once that of an automobile. My photograph doesn’t do it much justice, but in person the way the metal is beautifully twisted to create the form had me mesmerized. The second I saw this amazing sculpture I felt a connection with it and I spent a good amount of my visit that day enjoying it. It brought me back to my childhood and being afraid of monsters in the dark.

Sea Glass

Donald Verger’s 2015 Sea Glass Calendar; April

I just discovered Donald Verger’s beautiful photography when I purchased my wall calendar for 2015. Each month depicts photographs of sea glass that has been gathered from all over the world and very creatively arranged. Some arrangements include flowers and shells and they all seem to tell a story. I love this photograph for the month of April. It is telling me that spring has finally arrived and it seems to refresh my soul. I find the tone and the mix of colors very soothing to my eye and the focal point of the larger, balancing pieces, makes me want to take a deep breath and relax.
